Every year my daughter is ecstatic when valentines (or simply February) rolls around…because that means it is time for Heart Surprise Pound Cake! This is a very simple treat to make but has big impact – kids and adults are amazed…and surprised of course.

Inspired From:
You Will Need...
- 2 boxes of Betty Crocker Pound Cake Mix (Plus butter, eggs, and water according to package directions)
- 1 (or 2) loaf pans
- Red Food Coloring
- 1 small heart cookie cutter
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350. Mix one package of Pound Cake (according to package directions). Add 6 capfuls of red food coloring and mix until all the batter is colored. Bake for one hour. Remove from oven, let cool.
Step 2
Once cool, cut into 3/4″-1″ slices. Then using the heart cookie cutter cut heart shapes. I am usually able to get at least 2 hearts from each slice.
Step 3
Mix together the second package of Pound Cake Mix.
In a second (or a cleaned) loaf pan, place enough batter (about 1 1/2 cups) to fill the pan about 1″.
Beginning 1/2″ from the en of the loaf pan, place your hearts in the center of the batter.Step 4
Place the remaining batter on top and all around the sides of the hearts.
Bake for 1 hour at 350FStep 5
Remove from oven. Let it cool completely and then slice and be surprised!
Step 6
This treat is really so easy to make…but it looks like it took so much effort…and better yet everyone loves the surprise and the taste of course!
