I love crafts that involve a lot of textures and unusual ideas. When I had the idea for this cross-stitch wood love sign, I could not wait to make it. Now, I cannot wait to make more sign with other words. My daughter has requested her name.
Step 1Cut your board to the right length. Then I stained it and let it dry. I waited to paint mine until after I drilled the holes, but you can paint it now.
Step 2Print out the template and adhere it to your board (lined up centers horizontally and vertically) with spray adhesive or tape. Then carefully, making sure to stay inside the black lines of the letters) begin drilling each corner of each X. It took me about 20-30 minutes to drill all the holes. Go slow. I made two mistakes and had to re-drill under the original holes (one is kind of noticeable, but its ok!)
Step 3When done, sand the back and front of the wood. This helps prevent getting splinters. Then paint (if you did not already) and seal.
Step 4Thread your needle with a length of yarn. I only cut enough yarn for one letter at a time to keep the yarn manageable. Now, start sewing - diagonal corner to diagonal corner to form X's until you reach the end!
Step 5Work on each letter. The effect of the cross-stitch on the wood is so cool!
Step 6When you are done you have a super sweet gift or home decor item for Valentines day or any day you want to spread the love!
