I know it’s easy to give up on something that looks like rubbish, is useless, and on top of that occupies a lot of space and collect dust. That’s the sad truth about old furniture and most people see it exactly this way. But let’s dig up a little deeper and find the artist that hides in every one of us. Through the eyes of an artist all these old and useless items look a little bit different. They have a potential. A big one in fact. Here are several ideas that put old furniture in the spotlight and show there is something hidden in there.
1. Vintage Look in Your Summer House
Old is old but sometimes it can also be good, even better great, fabulous, amazing. Many people like vintage style when it’ comes to interior. What better way to bring it in your summer house than using vintage furniture. The old bath tub that you don’t know what to do with can be the main accent in a vintage bathroom. The old tubs are actually pretty comfortable and fit perfectly even with modern-looking accessories. What about the living room? You can try putting different old chairs, a couch that has been reupholstered the DIY way, a table from your grandparents house, and even 100-years old cabinets, all that in one place. You will be surprised that they fit each other (with a little help of a designer’s eye), create a cosy atmosphere and even make you feel like you’re going back in time every time you enter the room. In addition, you will save a lot of money on new furniture and will play your part in recycling.
2. Transformation
Re-painting, re-upholstering, little fixes without too much effort some pieces of old furniture can be turned into something useful and good-looking. Changing the point of view and looking at these stuff as an empty canvas (and not just rubbish) can be the first step to a very successful project. You have the grounds and the materials to work with. You only need to find the proper way to make your idea come true. What’s more, many of the modern furniture designs are based on a more vintage look or can be recreated by using the materials from old pieces. You’ve already bought yourself new, modernlooking furniture? Not a problem. Take a minute to see if there is room for one more item somewhere in there. Re-paint the old piece in colour that fits the new one. It can be a great addition or even a fashion accent to the room. More space for storage is never redundant and properly placed furniture is never in surplus.
3. In the Garden
Garden is the place where old pieces of furniture can start a new life in an entirely different form. What do I mean when I say ‘different’? Do you ever think that a drawer can be used for a pot? Garden designers are very creative that way. Old beds, chairs, drawers, cabinets, even a piano have found their place in gardens and sheltered flowers, or fruits and vegetables. If we put aside this more abstract use, old furniture is perfect to create a place for you to relax in the garden. If not specially manufactured for outdoor use, most pieces of furniture come with a warning: “Don’t use outdoors to avoid damage caused by weather conditions and sunlight”. For something you’re prepared to throw away, such a warning is … a little bit late. It doesn’t matter if the original colour will be corrupted when you don’t know what the original colour was. Of course, some changes and fixes will extend the life of indoor furniture outdoors. As already mentioned, more storage place is never redundant. Old drawers and cabinets can be used for storing gardening tools, seeds, soil, and fertilisers. We can go even further bird feeders and houses, or shelters for other animals (cats, dogs, rabbits). Of course, for indoor pets this idea can be put into effect inside the house.
If you are still not a fan of the idea, the least you can do is let these items end their life with honour. Old furniture removal service is what you need. Professional removalists will not only get you rid of what you consider junk in no time but will prevent the items of causing any kind of pollution. In fact some contractors may give other people the chance to see in your rubbish furniture the potential you couldn’t.
