I found that to build your own butcher block is not all that complicated! With the wonderful resource of our barn to pull from (my grandparents’ old wood working shop) I just keep finding more and more material to work with. In this case I knew several years ago exactly what I planned on using for the butcher block on my island – I didn’t yet have an island in mind but that wasn’t the point!
How to build your own butcher block
Inspired From:
You Will Need...
- 1x2s at least the width of the entire butcher block.
- Brad nailer and 2" brad nails.
- Wood glue.
- Clamps.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Get setup on a flat surface and have all of your tools and materials in hand. I laid the entire thing over several towels and then on top of two 2x4s just to make sure it was perfectly supported and FLAT.
Step 2
I also used a 2×4 on either end to help me keep it square and from there I just glued and nailed, glued and nailed, glued and nailed… After clamping the entire thing as tight as possible it was just a 24 hour wait before being done and ready for planing!
