Turn your toddler into a bag of Pirate’s Booty. I modified a Simplicity pattern for a ladybug, pumpkin or duck. It’s almost like a pillowcase dress that’s fitted at the bottom, and filled with some batting. I took these pictures of my son in the costume today, but he actually wore it 2 years ago. It should fit a lot longer than it looks here. At the time he also wore some pirate pants and a t-shirt under it.

You Will Need...
- Simplicity pattern for baby and kids for ladybug or pumpkin
- brown soft material - amount according to pattern
- fabric for lining
- stuffing or batting
- sewing machine
- brown thread
- elastic for bottom hem
- rope or ribbon to tie at the shoulders
- decorative garland or string of fake jewels and/or sequins
- gold paint pen
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
I just looked for some material that was brown and soft to look like a bag.
Step 2
I attached lots of “jewels” to the inside of the neck so that it looked like they were hanging out. The “jewels” were christmas tree garland for mini trees, and some large gold sequins that I wrote on with a paint pen and strung together on thread.
Step 3
I used rope as the ties for the top. I pulled the ropes through the neck seems and tied them on each side (just like a pillowcase dress). I brought both tied ends around the front and tied them to look like the tie of the bag. There was not a rope tied all the way around his neck.
Step 4
I wrote pirate’s booty with a gold paint pen on the back.
