Want To Make a Traditional Indian Dress?

Traditional Indian dresses are popular for their artistic designs. Before making your traditional Indian dress, its good to look at some pictures of Indian dresses. This way you will get an idea and picture of the dress you want to make. When you get your idea, you can draw the pattern on a brown paper.
Then take your measurements and be careful that you must keep one and a half inch for seam to the outside of the pattern. Now keep the buckskin hides on the pattern and draw trace lines lightly by following the pattern. Now move the pattern aside and draw the missing lines.
After you are done with tracing the pattern, pick your scissors. Cut the whole pattern by using your leather cutting scissors. Now poke some holes into the leather by using your awl at points where you want to sew the two pieces together. You can also sew the pieces first to make the pattern complete.
While sewing the two pieces together, make sure that they match. Put thread in your needle and start sewing the dress according to the pattern. You might struggle to pull the needle through the leather, as its a very hard material. To make the task easy, you can use pliers to pull the needle through leather. This way keep on sewing and sew the whole dress together.
As you are done with sewing, now cut fringes along the sleeves and into the bottom of dress. The length of fringes must be almost 2 inches and width about 1/4 inches.
Now comes the decoration part. You might find this step of making a traditional Indian dress very fascinating. Pick shells, beads or dyed quills to decorate your dress. Decoration along the arms and bodice always look fabulous, so try to focus on these parts while decorating the dress. Beads or shells can also be added to the fringes. When you get done with the decoration, you will see a fabulous traditional Indian dress that you can wear on special tribal occasions.
A word of caution: make sure you choose a buckskin hide which has no holes in it and also it should be sturdy in texture. Buckskin with holes will obviously present flaws for the dress. You can choose from deer, elk and sheepskin. However, deer hide is mostly preferred for such traditional dresses.
