I am completely amazed at convection cooking! I had the coolest opportunity to join a few bloggers for a Bosch Kitchen Re-Engineered media event and I was blown away with possibilities of their 800 and 500 series convection ovens. I’m convinced that’s they key to turning this fast-food mom back to an Executive Homemaker with healthier food fast onto the dinner table.
** I asked you on the Tip Junkie Facebook page if you’d rather learn about Convection Cooking or Dishwashers and the majority of you wanted both! Of course you do. {snicker} So this is part 1 of 2 in the Bosch Kitchen Re-Engineered blogger event. Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

What is Convection Cooking?
I learned that there are several really cool perks of convection cooking like faster cooking times, evenly cooked food, and the oven’s improved energy efficiency. So what is convection cooking? A convection oven {like the Bosch 800 & 500 series} has a top and bottom heating unit just like regular ovens (or conventional ovens) but the difference is that it has an internal fan that circulates the air which creates an evenly heated oven.

How Does Convection Work?
When doing some research on true convection cooking I found this fantastic video from Sarah Breckenridge and Steve Lombardi called How a Convection Oven Works.
“This video illustrates the difference between a convection {fan-heat} and conventional {radiant-heat} oven, and explains how convection ovens cook food faster and more evenly than a conventional oven.”
It’s a great visual illustration that really shows you the difference between how a conventional and a convection oven really cook food. Man, its crazy cool and less than 2 minutes! It’s worth the quick look as it completely changed the way I now look at my oven.
{You can cook Salmon, Cookies, and Asparagus at the same time in 15 minutes flat!}
Why Do I Need It?
What impressed me the most was that you can actually cook three different types of food {meat, dessert, and veggies} at the same time. Because convection cooking has the added fan it rotates the heat for an evenly cooked result. That’s an entire meal for the family in 15 minutes flat! Seriously, that could completely change the way I feed my family at home. Who knew?!?
Q&A with A Bosch Engineer
Manfred was the Bosch Engineer who has been working with Bosch for 15 years and was on hand to answer your questions that you asked over on the Tip Junkie Facebook page. Here’s a brief recap:
- Jane ~ Q:Â How on earth do they make such insanely quiet dishwashers? lol!
- A:Â According to Manfred their engineer – it’s the dampening of the stainless steal drum that they put asphalt mat to dampen the vibrating! Think about a bell and it you put your finger on the bell and suddenly the ring is gone.
- Kristen ~ Q:Â What is the best way to clean the front load washer? And do they have tips on how to get rid of the mildew smell?
- A:Â Run an empty cycle with Clorox, 5-10% solution according to the bottle. You can also spray a Clorox solution around the rubber seal on the front loader.
- Heather ~ Q:Â I want to know where to find free Bosch products 😉 If they’re giving away sample dishwashers, let me know!
- A: They do give away Thermadore dishwashers. Buy 2 products from them and they will give you a free dishwasher. Yay!! You can purchase Bosch products at any Sears, Lowes, and Best Buy. You can also buy them at Factory Builder stores in the south.
- Suzanne ~ Q: My mom had a bosch mixer that could make a triple bake of chocolate chip cookie dough. Where do they sell them? I checked on their website and I could not find any. My mom found one for me on craig’s list.
- A:Â Try Kitchen Resource Center out of Salt Lake City. They will be able to help you find your mixer. 😉
Thanks Bosch! I feel like I’m armed with knowledge that’s so important as a busy mom always on the go. When you know better – you do better! Of course now I have Bosch Envy… {sigh}

Disclosure: Bosch was fabulous and took care of my travel for this trip but all opinions of the appliances and event are my own. {snicker}
Convection oven could really save our time in baking or cooking something for our guests and families. I was planning to have one for my house.This is a great idea actually.A very high tech one. Thanks for this.
I have a Bosch dishwasher and stove and I love them…they work well and look great. I cook big meals every day and use my dishwasher daily and they have never failed me. Well worth the extra money we spent for them.
I’ve had a Bosch Kitchen Center for 26 years. I love it, and use it every day. Therefore, when we were building our home 2 years ago, I chose to have a Bosch stacked washer and dryer in my second floor master bedroom suite for convenience. I HATE them! If you’ve forgotten something and want to add it to the washer, too bad. There is no way to get it to open again–locked till the end of the cycle. The dryer is very impractical in that 1) it suggests filling it only half full—and that’s because it can literally take all day to get a full load of clothing to dry. It also suggests that you can always take them out and finish drying them by hanging them up!)2) It has no capability for any kind of a buzzer or ringer to remind you when it’s finished, so when I’m downstairs if I don’t remember that I have something in the washer or dryer, woe is me! 3) It’s inconvenient and not user-friendly and if I could I would give them back!
