DIY Spring Table
Just in time for Spring, Baskin-Robbins hatched the cutest Chick Cake ever!  It’s not just any cake though, it’s a Baskin-Robbins signature ice cream cake that can be customized with ice cream and cake flavor.  {{double score}}
Of course, when I saw the cake, I knew that it was the perfect focal point for Spring and Easter entertaining. Â With a cake this cute, it only takes a few minutes and DIY items to make a tablescape that will wow all of your family and friends!
Items Needed:
- Baskin-Robbins Chick Cake {The cake is made to order in your local Baskin-Robbins Store so be sure to choose your favorite ice cream and cake flavor.}
- Table Covering {wrapping paper, plastic table cloth or fabric cloth}
- Platter for the cake and candy to place around the cake.
- White Paper for Place Mats, two different sized plates in different colors.
- Paper cups
- Two patterns of ribbon
- Napkins
- Glass fish bowls or vases for flower arrangements
- Peeps
- Fresh Flowers
- Edible green nests
- Speckled malted milk eggs.
1. Start at the Bottom.
Decorate from the bottom upward ~ Table cloth, place mat, plate, etc. Â It’s important to have a solid foundation to build off of. Â Consider using wrapping paper instead of a plastic table cloth. You still have the benefit of quick clean and with all of the fun patterns and colors to choose from, a more sophisticated look.For this project, I also considered using a folded a piece of scrap fabric in the middle of the table like a table runner. Â Â That’s also a fast way to fancy up a plastic tablecloth.
2. Layer.
Create an eye-catching table by adding dimension and layers to your decor.  Instead of putting the napkin on the side of the plate, place it on top with a ribbon for a pop of color and interest. Resist the urge to place things in rows and put them on top of each other instead.
To layer the place setting I started with a 12×12 piece of scrapbook paper as the placemat, square plate, rectangle napkin, piece of ribbon, square small plate {in a diamond} and then topped it off with the cute nest that I made using $1 edible nests and speckled malted milk eggs.
All of which took minutes to plop on the table. Â {high fives!}
3. Â Mix Patterns.
You probably already know this, but there are two different types of patterns ~ organic and geometric.  Geometric patterns show straight lines, circles, triangles, rectangles, and polygons, etc., while organic patterns are shapes we find in nature like leaves, floral, beach waves, and the like.
The key to mixing patterns is to use one organic and one geometric pattern. Â Mixing two or more of the same type of pattern becomes messy and hard for the eye to focus on.
4. Â Keep it Simple
When planning any tablescape stick with 2-3 colors. Â Many times the 4th color can take decor quickly from chic to cheap.
5. Â Add Comfort.
Objects that are grown automatically bring warmth and a comforting feeling to your guests.  So be sure to add plants, flowers, and animals {like chicks} to your table.  Even if they are plastic or plaster these objects will immediately sooth your guests and make them feel at home.  This also applies to fabrics and ribbon {made from grown cotton} which can immediately sooth the soul.To make these peep sunflower vases check out the pictured tutorial with step-by-step instructions in my Tip Junkie Craft Room.  {wink}
6. Add a Centerpiece.
This table scape’s centerpiece is the Chick Cake from Baskin-Robbins.  The yellow offers the perfect pop of color to tie everything together and the chick is just so sweet for Spring!  The centerpiece should be pleasing to the eye, coordinate with the theme of the table and if your guests are lucky, be edible.  {{wink}}
