Today’s post is all about blogging! How to get a blog, how to make your blog pretty, and I’m also answering your blogging questions. This is probably more than you want or need to know, but since everyone is at a different place at blogging, I thought I’d give you several fabulous resources that have helped me.
This is what I hear almost every week, “Laurie I have the best idea for a blog! {put in explanation here} How do I make it successful?!?” {{insert pause expecting a magic pill}}
I’m not kidding, this happens to me all the time. {{giggle}} I absolutely love it. So here’s the secret to a successful blog:
Start one, blog every week day, read blogs, learn, show off your personality, blog every week day, find your niche or what makes you stand out, comment on other blogs, make friends, blog week every day.
Yep, I know you were expecting something huge and profound. Obviously there is more to it than that – but the biggest thing is to start one and be consistent at it!
How To Get a Blog
So if you’re wanting to start a blog there are a lot of options, but the most popular are:
- Blogspot.com for people with basic to zero computer skills.

I made the mistake of doing WordPress for my blog- while it’s totally great and I love it, it’s not for people like me that wanted CUTE as priority. I’ve had a heck of a time getting it set up. I started a blogger blog and in TEN MINUTES I had a format I really liked with a cute background and font >>facepalm<<
Now I need to figure out if I should make the switch or not since I really don't want to *start over* but my blog layout is sooo ugly as is.
My eyes have gone all fuzzy from reading these posts but I don’t mind!
These are some super handy tips, I’ve not been bloging long and the thought of offending anyone or doing something really stupid has been worrying me, now I feel more confident in what to do!
Thanks so much for this Laurie, much appreciated
Debra in Atlanta couldn’t have said it better…..my thoughts exactly, and I, too, am from the Atlanta area! Maybe it’s something in the air. Anyway, I came on the “Tip Junkie” site looking for tips on making fabric flowers. I saw the “Blog” ad and here I am. I’ve tried on and off for the past two years to blog. I love to write…..inspirational stuff and “feelings” type stuff and I’m always told I should write a book…. Am creative in so many directions can’t seem to focus….too many little talents, not enough big ONE?! Not sure, but I’m going to come back to your blog and learn to blog. Thanks for so kindly sharing. And, Debra from Atlanta, I’d love to talk (email) if you’re so inclined!?
Whoooootttt!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Years before there was even such a word as “blogging” I presented an idea to my husband. I thought wouldn’t it be neat…..and basically I was thinking about “blogging” (but I didn’t know that’s what it was called because it didn’t exist. Sigh, another idea I should have acted on….) Anyway, here I am years later and I still have not acted on my “great idea” (although it seems everyone else in the world has :0) ) I have been seriously thinking about it though (and we all know how seriously thinking about something is exactly the same thing as doing it) and have been encouraged to get at it (even by a pretty good blogger) (she offered to help and really has but she is pretty busy blogging so…..). I have a feeling this could be a MAJOR help. Everything I wanted to know (well, a lot of everything I wanted to know) and all in one place. Thank you, thank you (did I remember to say “thank you”?). I’ll let you know when I get the “baby” up and going…after all, you’ll be a big part of the reason I was able to. Debbie
