Today I’m showcasing my favorite DIY decor tutorial that I’ve done all year. It’s a broken jewelry letter craft that I made for Charming Charlie (an accessory store).
This was really the coolest opportunity as I’m a huge fan of Charming Charlie. For me, they are the go-to-place for inexpensive accessories. Since I have all boys, the only person I have to dress up is myself! {{sad but true}} Since the Charming Charlie store organizes their accessories by color – it’s the easiest place for me to buy my accessories.
Watch my video for all the details on how to use broken jewelry to embellish this wood letter.

As featured on CharmingCharlie.com – This DIY decor project gives you an opportunity to use your outdated jewelry, non-functional jewelry, sentimental jewelry, jewelry you received as a gift (but would not wear), and other jewelry odds and ends.
Craft ~ Broken Jewelry Letter
For the complete tutorial on how to make this gorgeous blinged out monogram you can watch my video or head on over to the Charming Charlie blog with all the specifics.

You’ll need a letter of any size, a lot of jewelry, tin snips, and a hot glue gun. It took me 5 hours to make the first one (silver) but only 2 hours to make the second one (gold). Once you get all the jewelry cut up and figure out the design, it’s incredibly easy and zero crafting skills are required. {{wink}} Simply cut up the jewelry with the tin snips and hot glue onto the letter. That’s it!
You can hang it directly onto any wall or frame it like I did with the silver one. You can also go as elaborate or as simple as you’d like and use any size letter. This would make a gorgeous homemade gift idea. Keep it in mind for birthday presents this next year.

This is awesome! I would love to have a “C” for my family room for our last name.
I’d like the letter “L”. I’m going to hang it in the front entryway of my home. Love the jewelry idea!
So pretty! I’d love to have a ‘G’ and would either display near where I keep my jewelry or in my craft room for inspiration!
Oh!! How exquisite and creative!! What a wonderful idea!!
Hi Laurie,
I had saved all my (costume) jewelry since childhood and gave most of it away this summer for some poor girls in Africa to play dress-up in; most of them don’t even have toys and I had accumulated baskets of it without realizing it. I don’t regret giving it away because it was for a good cause and made lots of little girls very happy.
Now that I live in the US where you can’t donate “broken” costume jewelry to the poor, I will save and collect broken costume jewelry from myself, family and friends and try creative projects. I have incorporated tiny pendants or beads into handmade crafts in the past but never this many pieces into one artwork.
It is so nice to channel one’s creativity into something useful like a monogram display that one can hang anywhere in the house and I love Charming Charlie’s. In fact I brought my mother-in-law and sister-in-law and niece there as recently as yesterday; they were oohing and aahing and we didn’t leave empty handed. In fact, out of all the many stores at Westlake Mall it is without doubt where I spent the most money but as it is pretty inexpensive, I had a bagful of “loot”! If I had seen your work there I would have purchased an L, but I didn’t and I only found out about your artwork today!!
If ever I am lucky enough to get one of these jewelled monograms from you, Laurie then please send me an L. I’ve recently married into the Lester family and we hope to buy our own house in the not too distant future and I would be so proud to display your fabulous glitzy “L” in our foyer or living room.
Laurie, keep up the wonderful work!!
