28 DIY Halloween Costume Ideas {child, family, adult}

Homemade Halloween costumes can make such lasting memories!  So if you’re looking for a unique family fun Halloween, then check out these best Halloween costumes to dress up as characters from books or movies, funny one’s that bring a laugh, as well as couple and group costume ideas.

 Homemade Halloween Costumes

1.  Despicable Me Minion Costumes {halloween costume ideas} ~ If you have a Despicable Me fan then this Halloween costume is for you. And, how adorable is the pink tutu for girl minions?! No patterns are necessary for making these costumes. But, you will need overalls, a yellow hoodie, black gloves, black shoes and glasses.

2.  Where’s Waldo Costume & Hat {free pattern} ~ If you are wanting an awesome homemade Halloween costume, this one is perfect for your little guy.  It really is a simple a costume to put together.  The glasses are from Wendy’s, an ordinary pair of jeans and a red and white striped shirt.  Sarah has even included the free crochet pattern to make the hat.  The pattern is also perfect for a warm winter hat.

3.  Airplane Costume ~ This airplane costume makes me zoom with delight!  It’s mostly constructed from cardboard boxes and some basic supplies from the craft store.

4.  Stick Figure Costume ~ This costume cracks me up!  It’s so easy to make too, white clothes, electrical tape, a paper plate, markers and some string is all you need.

5.  Mary Poppins ~ Let’s go fly a kite with the Mary Poppin’s gang!  There’s a tutorial for Bert, Mary and this cute little dancing penguin.

7.  Little Red Riding Hood + Wolf + Huntsman ~ Here are the costumes I put together for the kids this year for Halloween. We decided Little Red Riding Hood, the Big Bad Wolf, and the Woodsman would be really fun. I made Red’s cloak and the wolfie’s outfit.

8.  No-Sew Shark Halloween Costume ~ How adorable is this no-sew shark costume?!  Your little man will be able to stay warm for the chilly Halloween.  Another plus?  It only costs approximately $10 to make!  Can’t go wrong with that!

9.  Transformer Rescue Bot Costume {how-to} ~ If you have a Transformer fan then this dress-up/Halloween costume is for you. It’s made from jersey cotton so it is comfortable enough to transform into a new role, a rescue bot. All of the patterns that were used have been included in the post to make it easier on you. {wink}

10.  DIY Charlie Brown Costume ~ Black shorts. Check. Yellow t-shirt. Check.  All you need to do is add a felt chevron stripe to the t-shirt.  You don’t even need to sew it on you can hot glue it.

11.  Batman Costume DIY {Simple Halloween Costumes} ~ This is a fun diy batman costume for the little super hero at your house! Recycled from a pair of suit pants, you can create a cape and mask! Yup you read that right, suit pants! Your little man will love his batman costume, which is perfect for halloween or even just to play around in!
