I first discovered the Word of the Year in 2007 by Michelle, Kristi, and Lisa and was immediately inspired by the idea originated by Alli Edwards:

My word of the year will be JOY. Last year was the year of NO. I changed my work policy and work schedule, changed my children’s schooling, remove ourselves from many obligations, opened up our possibilities and cleared the path of all the heartache and indecision we were facing. This year we will be embracing all the changes that came from living out the year of NO. We will be embracing all the Joy that came from making those changes, and following the path to further Joy.
i’ve been doing a word for the year since 2006 and it is one of my most favorite things. this year my word is:
pace
i really need to learn to pace myself in order to spend my time on things that matter most. thanks!
