Here are some homemade Christmas traditions that I’ve also made and given as gifts.
1. Several years ago I made these Nativity hand puppets.
They were so easy! We don’t have enough people in our family to act out the Nativity on Christmas Eve – so this is our alternative.
2. Laminated Finch Family Nativity
This is my favorite Christmas gift to make for friends with small kiddos. Print out the “Away in Manger” project in the The Best of Family Home Evening CD on card stock, cut, and laminate.
Since I have a terrible voice, I made a CD of all the songs to go with it. I put wrote the corresponding songs and CD track # on the back of each one as well as a Velcro dot. My boys pick a Nativity character and we sing along with the CD. You can also print out all the words to the songs here.
I’ve used this for so many things: Family Home Evenings, singing time at church, play group activity, and as a lesson help.
3. Stamped Christmas Advent Calendar
I put it on my fridge but you could also put this on a cookie sheet as well. Make it for your family or for a friend as a gift.
4. Christmas Tree Advent Calendar
Make this great wooden tree advent calendar. An advent is a way of marking the days until Christmas, start on December 1st.
Print out the file and you will find 25 poems and stories for each of the symbols of Christmas associated with the wood Advent Tree. All ready to cut out and attach!
Directions:
Every day until Christmas, starting December 1st put a piece on the Tree. You dont have to go in any particular order. Find the card that goes with that piece and read it. On the bottom of the cards are some ideas you can do each day.
