I don’t know about you, but the recession has hit me and my family. It has made me think about changing Tip Junkie a bit and feature less OTT (over-the-top) tips & creative ideas.
Mainly because I would hate to loose readers due to the fact that it’s ideas are no longer financially feasible; or that Tip Junkie’s ideas are a constant reminder of what you ‘can no longer do’. That would be a total bummer.
However, after some considerable thought, I’ve decided to keep Tip Junkie the way it is. We won’t always be in a recession and I find the featured tips to be so inspirational and they ‘glitter’ my life. I hope you’ll continue to feel that way as well.
Therefore the question is: “What do we do in the meantime?” or “How do we ‘bookmark’ or ‘favorite’ these amazing ideas so we can find them for later use?”
The answer is Delicious or Del.icio.us. It’s not pretty but it’s functional.
In a nutshell it’s a social bookmarking site where you can catalogue any page on the Internet. It’s also great because you can find those ideas on any computer! So if you’re at your in-laws this Thanksgiving and you want to make those amazing place cards you bookmarked, you can easily pull it up on Delicious.
It works amazing for blogs if you use it right. Here’s how:
1. Create an account and have it automatically upload the Delicious toolbar on your Internet browser. (Just follow the prompts.) It will look like the picture above.
2. When you’re blog-jogging click on the TAG button to ‘Bookmark this on del.icio.us’. Be sure to give it a category name (preferably 1 word) and maybe even what you liked about the site in the description.
Tip: Be sure to use the permalink (direct link) for the page not the home page. For instance, if you want to bookmark Tip Junkie’s Easter Basket post click on the post header to get the permalink (http://tipjunkie.blogspot.com/2009/03/homemade-easter-baskets-paper-baskets.html).
This will bookmark that exact post instead of Tip Junkie’s home page (https://tipjunkie.com/)
It’s such a drag when you realize that you didn’t catalogue the exact post, just the blog. It makes it harder to find what you wanted. Does that make sense?
3. You can find ‘Your Bookmarks’ by pressing the del.icio.us button on your toolbar. All of your categories are listed on the right. Easy!!
You can also use Del.icio.us to promote your blog/business and find insanely creative ideas. However, I haven’t used it for those purposes yet. I just love seeing the ideas that I found over a year ago. It’s quick and makes life so much easier.
Probably one of the most common questions I receive is “How do you find all your ideas you feature on Tip Junkie?” It’s quite simple, just like everyone I find them via Google or blog-jogging. I know, it’s very anti-climatic. Why does it always seem to boil down to hard work? {{sigh}}
But when I find these ideas, I catalogue them in Del.icio.us so I can do a post anytime, anywhere. I love it!
You may have noticed that I’ve added these “social bookmarking hearts” at the bottom of some posts. If you have a Del.icio.us account, just click on the first heart. I’ve made it easy for you ‘cuz I’ve got your back. {{wink}}

I am glad you decided NOT to change Tip Junkie. I love it how it is, and even if we can’t do as many over the top projects ourselves it just means we have to be selective. It’s still fun to see what others are doing. And really it’s an escape to be inspired. Love what you’re doing, keep up the great work!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the tip! I have so many pages bookmarked, I was getting ready to make a word document with all of the links, but realized that would not work well at all. I’m excited to use this tool!
I just signed up for this the other day. I love it so far!
Just what I need!! Thank you so much!
I love del.icio.us. Have used it for awhile to save recipes.
I’m glad you’re not changing Tip Junkie, but it’s funny you brought that up, because I just submitted a Tip to you today about FREE spring decor updates! ๐
Maybe we can all have our cake and eat it too!
