Nutrition is important to me and I’m always looking for new ways to start my day that are fresh and healthy. Most mornings are rushed trying to get my boys fed and out the door for school, so I’m always looking for new recipes and ideas that will help me get them something healthy that will start their morning off right and sustain them while they are in school.
Lucky for me, the makers of Vick’s has come to my rescue. In conjunction with the launch of their newest Nature’s Fusion Products, they are producing a series of videos with Tips and Recipes from Top Chef’s to help us stay healthy. Tips for Making Homemade Granola and Smoothies
- Coconut or grape seed oil are great substitutions for butter!
- Pure maple syrup is a fabulous substitution for honey.
- Substitute or add walnuts, cashews, pecans or flax seed in your granola recipe
- Add different types of dried fruit to your granola for variety.
- Always store granola in an airtight container.
- Serve with fresh fruit, with cream or even yogurt!
- Use fresh and seasonal fruit in your smoothies.

I love making my own granola and smoothies. Sometime I use agave nectar in place of sugar, honey or maple syrup. It is a natural alternative and you need to use less of it.
