Introduce yourself to Tip Junkies.
My name is Melissa and I’m a mom of three and a pastor’s wife at a new church in Washington. On the web, I’m the creator of the blog The Inspired Room! I love having a blog where I can share things I love about decorating and making a home for my family! I like to keep things simple, doable and affordable!
What do you think every new blogger/Mom-preneur should know?
Blogging is a fun and rewarding hobby! Turning a blog into a real business is a ton of work. It is like building any other business, it takes effort, determination, sacrifices, focus and dedication towards short and long term goals. But of course, all of that can come at a price. Every day you have to make a decision for how you are going to spend your time. If you have young children at home, finding a balance is going to be difficult, particularly if you do not have household help!
Before you decide to take your blog from a hobby to a business, make sure you are ready for the sacrifices and choices you’ll have to make along the way. It can be done successfully with the right support system and time management skills, but it is definitely something you will want to consider before making the decision to be a blogger/mom-preneur!
With that said, if you love what you do, a lot of the “work” is fun. Being a mom-preneur it is an amazing opportunity to do what you love! I can’t imagine working at any other job than the one I have created for myself! It is a real blessing!
What have you learned in the last 12 months that has been a “game-changer” for your blog/business?
I don’t have time for a time consuming hobby, so while I love decorating and blogging, I have to make the most of my effort. This means I have to work smarter! I try to analyze what I am doing and make sure that it is not only fun for me, like a hobby, but also productive for my family. I am running in a lot of directions so I want to make sure that all the things I chose to do are all contributing to my family’s well being as well as my own personal enjoyment.
What piece of advice have you received that you’ll never forget?
