8 Things To Do With Melted Crayons

Ever wondered what to do with that drawer full of broken crayons?  Melting crayons and making them into something else is easier than you may think!  Here are 8 things to do with melted crayons that might surprise you.  I’ve included tutorials for melting the crayons as well as crafts to make with melted crayons including melted crayon canvas art!

How To Melt Crayons

recycled crayons

1.  Crayon Crafts for Kids ~ The key to this tutorial is kids, silicone baking trays, and silicone ice trays. You need the kids who break the crayons to help recycle them {i.e., take the wrappers off and help prep the crayons for baking} and the silicone baking trays to melt the crayons before pouring them into the ice trays to set the crayons into new shapes.

Melting Crayons In The Microwave

2.  Melted Crayon Planets ~ Here’s a great tutorial for making planets in the microwave using melted crayons and paper plates!  At Kiwi Crate they figured out that “an easy way to make planets is by melting crayons on paper plates. As the crayon bits melt they create swirls, stripes and masses that look a lot like planets”.  I love that!

Melting Crayons In Oven

3.  Heart Shaped Crayons ~ Whipperberry “whipped” up some melted heart shaped crayons in the oven with sparkle for Valentine’s day, but these beauties could be used year round.  I just adore how the glitter adds that extra pizzazz to the recycled crayons!

4.  Melting Crayons ~ Read. Write. Mom!  Gives a great tutorial about melting broken crayons in the oven along with tips and tricks she learned along the way.

Melted Crayon Crafts

Rainbow Toddler Crayons

5.  Rainbow Toddler Crayons ~ Adult supervision is required for these, but they make a great toddler craft. These are great for a toddler to learn to hold a crayon. Plus, the layers just look bright and cheery.

Crayon Lanterns

6.  Melted Crayon Lanterns ~  Aunt Peaches provides a full tutorial on how to make fun {lots of scribbling involved} Lumanaries using white paper bags and melted crayons.

7.  Melted Crayon Dot Art ~ If you are wanting to try out a little Pointillism with the crayons, this excellent tutorial is for you.

Melted Crayon Canvas Art

8. Melted Crayon Canvas Art ~  Melted Crayon Canvas art is all the rage right now, but actually finding a tutorial is harder than you might think.  Stephanie’s tutorial is fabulous and will walk you through each step.
