Cleaning Venetian Blinds – DIY

If you are looking to keep the windows in your home and the blinds that you have treated them with functional for a long time, you have to ensure that they are always dust and dirt free. These blinds are very effective for both your home and the office.



Once you purchase the venetian blinds that you have always desired and you install them, you will need to maintain them if you want them to serve your for a long period of time. There are two types of Venetian shades including the old and modern versions. The old version blinds were mainly made of plastic or metal, whereas the modern ones are made of wood. The fact remains that for any of the two set of blinds to serve you well and for a good period of time is to make sure that you take good care of them. The main care is making sure that they are always cleaned and well lubricated for easier movement of opening and shutting them. The following are tips of how to clean them:



Dusting



The very first thing that you should start with when you are cleaning your venetian blinds is dust them properly of any dust and stick substances on the surface. If you have some tough stains you can use the spray cleaner for your windows to make sure the stains are gone. Make sure that if your windows have curtains they have been folded or tied such that they are not on your way.



Cleaning



After you have dusted all the windows that you are planning on cleaning, take some soft gloves or a piece of cloth that attracts dust. If you are cleaning venetian blinds with slats that are made from wood, you should use dry gloves to avoid stains and streaks, when working on metal or plastic blinds you can use a cleaning spray. You just need to check the compatibility of cleaning liquid and ensure that it does not have any chemicals that might be bad for your metallic or plastic slats.
Once you are ready to start, cleaning shut the blind slats on one side and starts cleaning them gently using the gloves or the cloth you have. The cloth should attract dust so as to make your cleaning endeavor easier than it already is. When you are done with one side of the venetian blinds, rotate them shut in the other direction and clean the other side too using the same technique.



You should always use a fresh pair of gloves to make sure that you do not use one till the dust accumulates on the slats when you try cleaning them with used gloves. Venetian blinds can serve you for a long period of time if you only take good care of them.



Drying



When you are done cleaning the slats on both sides of the blinds, you should take a dry piece of cloth similar to the one used to clean and then dry them on both sides. This is to prevent any moist or dampness to hang on the slats and maybe cause rust on the metal ones in the long run.
