I am a huge fan of mercury glass decor items. When I read an article froma fellow blogger on how to create mercury glass plates, I was inspired to create charger plates for my dining room tablescape. I love how they turned out and they will be a permanent ingredient in my dining room decor.

You Will Need...
- Krylon Looking Glass Mirror Like Spray Paint
- Spray Bottle Filled With Water
- Paper Towels
- Rubber Gloves
- Flat Black Spray Paint
- Regular Silver Spray Paint
- Clear Glass Plates
- Large Piece of Cardboard or a Plastic.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Begin by setting up a well ventilated workspace, preferably outside. Make sure your plates are clean and dry. Remove all price stickers and any leftover adhesive. Lay out your cardboard, tarp or plastic flat on your workspace to protect from overspray and place each plate upside down on top of it.
Step 2
Working with one plate at a time, spray the back of each plate with a coat of the Krylon Looking Glass Spray Paint.
Step 3
Immediately after applying the paint, spritz a light mist of water on top of the paint. This paint dries quite quickly, especially in the sunshine so there is a small window of opportunity here. You want to apply the water before the paint is dry
Step 4
Let the paint dry completely. Once paint is dry, spray a coat or two of flat black on top of the looking glass paint. This will give it an antiqued look as the black will show through where you removed the mirror paint. Because I was putting these plates on my dinner table I did not want the bottoms of the plates to be all black. I did a quick coat of silver paint over the black (when it was dry) to give it a more finished look. Once dry, flip it over and admire your work!
