I made this copper leafed tray to to put my jewelry on when I get home as opposed to randomly setting it on my dresser where it would wind up getting knocked off and lost. Most any one with small bits and bobs would enjoy having something like this or making it. It’s an easy craft though completion takes a few days due to dry time.

You Will Need...
- Air dry clay
- metal leaf
- Adhesive like Speedball's leafing adhesive
- Sealer like Liquitex Varnish
- 2 or 3 paintbrushes
- Parchment paper (for drying the tray on)
- Acrylic craft paint (optional)
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Roll out a long snake of clay a little smaller than the diameter of a dime and coil up into a bowl.
Step 2
Blend coils together with fingers once finished, firmly press seams together and continue to blend the seams out. You will need to add a small amount of water to the surface as it dries to keep it smooth. Once you have the tray shaped the way you would like it to be, set it on parchment or wax paper and let it dry (mine took about two days)
Step 3
Once your tray is dry follow the directions on your adhesive and apply your metal leafing. When adhesive has dried, give your leafing at least one coat of sealer/varnish to protect the metal from coming off and or oxidizing.
Step 4
Once your tray is dry it’s ready to use. The tray will be delicate so you will need to treat it with care.
