I couldn’t keep track of my tools because the two guys I live with (hubs and 26 year old son) keep taking tools and then not putting them back so I decided to have a “secret toolbox”, something they would never think that hammers and screwdrivers would be in…. a pocketbook!
I found a very cute old purse that I had hanging up on a hat rack in the front hall for the last 10 years or so. I opened it up and when I found that the hammer fit in (the biggest tool) I knew I had the right “toolbox”. After that I put a bunch of necessary tools in it.
Oh, this is funny. Inside the purse was an old embroidered hankie and I decided to put it halfway on the outside to make the whole thing more girlie. If you look at the pictures, I think you’ll know what I mean! The whole thing is so “pretty” that no one will suspect that it is secretly my “toolbox”… a toolbox that keeps MY TOOLS out of the hands of the two guys in my house.
As it is, I keep buying tools at tag sales just to try to keep up with these two men losing/misplacing tools. So I decided to try to find a solution to this. Sometimes when I can’t find a hammer, I just end up using a heavy pair of pliers to hammer in nails. Now I will always be able to find a hammer!
I blogged about this and you may think that the “toolbox” is no longer a secret? It’s still is a secret. My two guys don’t read my blog unless I force them to it. 🙂 The secret is safe unless they see me taking screwdrivers and things out of the pocketbook. In the meantime, I’m going to keep using the tools in the tool drawer unless what I need isn’t in there! The purse toolbox is a backup plan when I can not find any tools that I need.
It’s a good feeling to know that I can get tools without having to search the whole house over to find them.
I put the purse in plain sight in the living room next to some other decorations on a table with a lamp on it. So my tools are hidden in plain sight!!! I’d like to show them the toolbox but that would defeat the purpose so I’m not going to do that.
Best wishes, my friends, Linda Bouffard
