Create painted pumpkins that have the texture and color variation of real ones. Using a simple paint technique of dry brushing a darker color over your pumpkin it can be transformed into something realistic looking. This year, I was going with a neutral color scheme for my fall decorating and chose to paint green pumpkins. You could do this project with any color, though.
Realistic DIY Dry Brushed Chalk Painted Pumpkins for Fall
Inspired From:
You Will Need...
- chalk paint
- plastic craft store pumpkins
- paint brush that can be thrown away after the project has been completed
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Basecoat your pumpkins. I chose a light mint shade and a medium green for different colored pumpkins. You may need to do two coats of paint for a completely covered pumpkin.
Step 2
When your basecoat is dry, you’ll need to do the dry brushing portion of the project. Add a darker shade of paint to your brush, but then brush most of that paint off onto a paper towel. You don’t want much paint to be on your brush. Then lightly brush all over the pumpkin with what remains trying to slowly build up different shades and color variations on your pumpkin. If you get too much of a darker color in a spot, simply add a bit more of the lighter color back onto the pumpkin.
