5 Thanksgiving Traditions for Kids

TipJunkie.com is proud to present the ‘Great Tip Award’ to several women who have inspired us with some great Thanksgiving Traditions for kids.

Meredith posted about her Thanksgiving Tradition of making a thankful chain each November. They start on the first of November and each evening at dinner have everyone write one thing they’re thankful for on a strip of paper. They also have another fun tradition, click here to read all about it.

Cheryl sets out a basket of paper strips and a pen, and every one’s instruction is to write down things they are thankful for on the strips. On Thanksgiving morning they read the items together and talk about how blessed we are. Cheryl goes one step further and makes a scrapbook page out of them.

I am so impressed with Kelli who has challenged everyone to “give thanks” and also provided topics you can blog about. Such as:

• What you are thankful for
• Thanksgiving traditions or memories
• Recipes
• Craft Ideas
• Decorating ideas
• Your menu-Cleaning/Organizing “before” and “after” pictures
• Anything having to do with Thanksgiving

Robin posted about her tradition – the Thankful Box. Everyone has to put in writing at least one thing for which they are thankful from the previous year, then place it in our Thankful Box. She even has this cute poem:

I’m just a little Thankful Box
And treasures I do hold.
Memories from this year gone past
As priceless as pure gold.

Each time you’re truly grateful
For big things and for small
Write it down and drop it in ~
I want to hear them all!

Be sure to write your name and date
So everyone will know
How special was this memory
And how God blessed you so.

Then, once a year, take them out
All gathered ‘round to listen.

Janne’s tradition is fabulous and one that I can’t wait to incorporate. It’s called The Tablecloth. She gets a white sheet and has her children write on it. The kids wrote what they were thankful for, drew funny pictures, and traced their hand prints. They bring out the same sheet and put it on the table the next year, and they were just tickled looking at the things they’d written the year before, comparing hand print size differences, and adding new touches.
