If you are like me, then November 2nd marks the day I want to find new uses for Halloween candy. I’m over having my kids ask me over and over again if they can have ANOTHER piece of candy. By then, they’ve had enough.
So, this year I’m heading into Halloween prepared with 8 Ways to Use Left Over Candy. This way I can collect the candy when I feel it’s time with a clear conscience. It doesn’t need to go in the trash, I can use it in other ways that will keep everyone happy while at the same time not have to constantly monitor sugar consumption. It’s a win/win!

Make Other Things to Eat
BAKE IT IN CAKES, CUPCAKES, BROWNIES AND MORE –
There are so many amazing recipes online that highlight candy that is given away at Halloween. Try making Peanut Butter Brownie Trifle, Butterfinger Cookie Bars, Halloween Candy Bark, Twix Cupcakes, Snickers Cake, Candy Corn Parfait, Snicker Pie and on and on…
MAKE HOMEMADE TRAIL MIX –
Use up your M&M’s and candy corn by making homemade trail mix. Toss them in with dried fruit, pretzels, and nuts!
MAKE FROZEN SHAKES –
Try your hand and making custom made candy bar shakes. In a blender, add vanilla ice cream, milk, chocolate syrup, and chopped up candy bars.
Our favorite recipe is 3 cups of vanilla ice cream, 1/3 cup of milk, 2 big squeezes of chocolate syrup, and a few chopped snickers bars blended together for about 30 seconds. Yummy.

MAKE A PINATA ~
I don’t know how much leftover candy you collect in your house, but we have a TON. A great idea is to use the extra candy to fill a piñata for the next birthday party!
Use the Candy to Learn
USE THE CANDY TO LEARN MATH –
You’d be surprised how much fun candy math can be. Smaller pieces of candy like candy corn, M&M’s and gobstoppers can be used to practice addition and subtraction and counting by multiples like 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
Sort candy into groups to learn about fractions and percentages.
USE THE CANDY FOR SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS –
You can look up all kinds of fun science experiments for kids online, but these two are fun!
- Drop a few Skittles, M&M’s or Jelly Beans into a bowl of warm water, logo side up. Wait 5 minutes. Do not stir the water. After a few minutes, look for floating letters. The white letters on the candy are made with edible ink that doesn’t dissolve in water. See what happens!
- Chomp a Lifesaver in the dark. See if “sparks” fly.
Other Uses…
DECORATE A GINGERBREAD HOUSE –
How many times have you had to purchase a bunch of candy or a gingerbread house kit right after Halloween for your kiddos? I fall into this trap every year and it drives me nuts. All of that leftover candy is PERFECT for decorating the gingerbread houses that my kids LOVE to make. There is no reason that I need to spend money buying kits or candy when I have excess that can be used for this very thing!
GIVE IT AWAY –
Send the candy into the office and let the adults enjoy it. Out of sight, out of mind. {wink}
