Girlfriendology Birthdays

Hey Girlfriends! I will be a guest on the Girlfriendology Blog Talk Radio this Friday, May 14th at 2 pm EST  {1 pm CST}.  We’ll be chatting about ways you can use your creativity to show your friend you care.

One of the ways I show my girlfriends how much they mean to me is by doing something fun for their birthday.  Usually we are so busy taking care of others that our big day can go unnoticed.

I usually take into account my friends personality.  For instance, one year a girlfriend wanted a fabulous new coat for her birthday that was a bit out of her price range.  Being the frugalista that she is, she had mentioned to me how much she wanted it but just couldn’t splurge this year.  Therefore I put together a “group gift card” of sorts and we all gathered for lunch and gave her this money jacket!  She loved it and made her feel so special.

I have another friend that is so outgoing and the life of the party.  So for her birthday, I thought it would be appropriate to play a game!  I made a ‘Julie Rocks’ board game for a birthday party I hosted. I learned more about Julie while making this game than I had the entire 2 years I’ve known her. It was a huge hit at the party and made the party focus more around the birthday girl rather than veer off into casual conversation.

For a friend who’s loves one-on-one time with her girlfriends, I’ll put together an “Around the Clock” birthday.  Arrange for friends and family members go to the birthday girl’s house every hour on the hour and bring her a flower.  The very last person to arrive brings her a flower with the “Friends are like Flowers” poem.

Friends are like flowers
each unique in their own way,
put them all together
what a wonderful bouquet.

Some are really brilliant
full of light sharp and clear,
while other are more subdued
to both you can adhere.

You are a flower in my garden
that makes up my bouquet,
my friends you all make
a very impressive display.
