Purge
This is the hardest part. By far.
If you haven’t worn it in a year, get rid of it. Seriously.
If it’s ripped, if it has stains or holes, it’s got to go. Additionally, if it doesn’t fit, give it away.
Store Seasonal Items
Now that you’ve purged your closet, keep the items that you wear the most front and center and group by clothing item. Keep your pants with pants, skirts with skirts, shirts with shirts, and so on.
Store your seasonal clothing away from your eye-line. It’s always nice to store in a basket or bin high up on a shelf, but if you don’t have a basket or bin, just get your seasonal clothing stored out of the way. Take advantage of your high shelves.
Splurge on Nice Hangers
Splurge and use nice hangers, preferably hangers that are all one color.
When you use hangers that are all one color it keeps everything looking consistent and organized. Although wooden hangers are bulky, they are durable and just might keep you from making impulse buying choices and cluttering up your closet.
Be sure to get rid of the dry cleaning hangers. They are not meant to reside in your closet. {{smiling}}
Hang by Color
Arrange your clothes by color.
When your clothing is hung by color it looks more visually appealing and it’s easier to find. If you are looking for a blue top and you have a blue section of your closet, you know just where to look! It’s just more intuitive!
Maximize Space
An easy way to maximize your space is by adding shelves and bins.
Be sure to use all the space that you have. Go up and down. You’ll be amazed by how much you can store and organize with extra shelving and bins.
Don’t forget about your shoes and jewelry. {wink}
