We’re over the moon excited. {{bwahaha}} To commemorate this event I’ve found some solar eclipse crafts and activities that you can make with your kids! They’re super inexpensive, creative, and can lead to hours of fun. Plus, it’s a great way to teach your child about space.

What is a Total Solar Eclipse
Total solar eclipses occur when the New Moon comes between the Sun and Earth and casts the darkest part of its shadow, the umbra, on Earth. A full solar eclipse, known as totality, is almost as dark as night.
Don’t miss the total solar eclipse on August 21st. It hasn’t happened in the United States since 1979.
Solar Eclipse
1. A fun craft idea by Books and Giggles to learn about how the solar eclipse happens using construction paper, chalk and tape.
2. Make a solar eclipse t-shirt to wear on August 21st. It’s a simple project by KC Parent using a plain black t-shirt, fabric paint and sponges.
3. Smaller batches of black, turquoise, violet, and white slime are mixed together to make this super cool cosmic slime by Twodaloo.

4. Get creative and make your own pinhole viewer by JPL Nasa to safely view the solar eclipse. It’s a simple project using card stock, aluminum foil and a paper clip.
5. Another easy and simple way to make a pinhole viewer by Thrifty Fun is with an empty cardboard tube, white paper, foil and a push pin.
6. How to make a solar eclipse viewer using two paper plates by Nurture Store. Piercing two tiny holes in the center of the plates allows you to view the eclipse.
