USE A MICROFIBER TOWEL TO DRY YOUR HAIR
During the winter your hair typically gets a lot dryer and is more prone to breaking and frizz. You can help this issue by drying your hair with a microfiber towel. These towels absorb moisture much better than cotton towels and are more gentle on your hair cuticle, (which is the outermost part of the hair shaft that has a tendency to get dry, brittle, and frizzy).
Instead of rubbing or twisting your hair dry (which can cause damage to the hair), squeeze the water out of your tresses with a microfiber towel. This will protect your hair from damage AND save you time drying your hair.
USE A TOOTHBRUSH AND HAIR SPRAY TO TAME FLYAWAY HAIRS
If flyaway hair is an issue with you during the winter like it is for me, then try this trick!
Clean an old toothbrush in the dishwasher, or buy a new one. Then, spray the toothbrush with hair spray. Brush the toothbrush over flyaway hairs and they’ll blend back in with the rest of your hair. Smart, so smart.
TRY LISTERINE FOR DRY HEELS
If you are like many of us and get dry, cracked heels during the winter, then give this crazy sounding beauty hack a try! I wouldn’t recommend using this remedy if your heels are actually cracked so deep that they bleed, though.
Soak your feet for at least 30 minutes in 1 cup of Listerine mouthwash combined with 1 cup of vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water (as warm as you can stand). Then, thoroughly dry your heels and rub with a pumice stone or foot file. The mixture really helps remove the dead skin on your heels without a lot of effort.
USE OIL FOR SCALY LEGS
Switch to an oil spray for moisturizing your skin during the winter. Oils penetrate the skin deeper than lotions so they’ll help moisturize your skin better during the cold, dry months. Apply oil to your skin directly after toweling off following a shower. Oils work best when your skin is already damp.
If your skin continues to be dry, be sure to use an exfoliating scrub in the shower. This will help remove dead skin cells so that the moisture from the oil can more fully soak into your skin.
ADD SERUM TO FACIAL MOISTURIZER
Sometimes your daily moisturizer just doesn’t cut it, and you find that your face is still dry! If this is the case, add a drop of facial serum to your moisturizer, mix it together, and apply your foundation as usual.
USE A TEA BAG TO SOOTHE CHAPPED LIPS
Chapped lips are a problem most of us face during the winter, and sometimes applying lip balm doesn’t cut it. If your lips are raw and burning, try soothing them with green or black tea. Steep the teabag and then apply to the lips for about 5 minutes. The tannin in the tea will soothe your lips and help relieve the burning.
DITCH THE HOT WATER
Hot water leeches moisture from your skin, so avoid showering or bathing in hot water during the winter. I know this is a tough one, but try to go for short, lukewarm showers during the winter. Your skin will thank you.
